LAWIN
Member firm for Latvia

Firm Overview

LAWIN, the internationally highest-ranked business law firm in the Baltics, was launched in 2004 by integration of Lepik & Luhaäär (Estonia), Kļaviņš & Slaidiņš (Latvia) and Lideika, Petrauskas, Valiūnas ir partneriai (Lithuania)—the leading law firms in each jurisdiction since their foundation in the beginning of the 1990s.

LAWIN has earned its reputation for consistently being at the heart of the largest and most complex commercial and financial transactions in each jurisdiction and regionally; working with the largest foreign investors, major local and international businesses, and governments in the Baltics. For nearly two decades, LAWIN practices and lawyers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are continuously top ranked by the top international legal directories (Chambers Global/Europe, Legal 500 EMEA and IFLR 1000).

With almost 150 legal professionals working in five practice groups, LAWIN is ideally positioned to provide the highest-caliber, specialized legal services both domestically and on a pan-Baltic dimension. LAWIN is the Lex Mundi member in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The LAWIN Riga office was established in Latvia as Kļaviņš & Slaidiņš in 1992 by Filips Kļaviņš and Raimonds Slaidiņš, both U.S. lawyers of Latvian descent. The firm started with helping the first significant foreign investors begin operations in Latvia, and quickly became a leading law firm involved in the majority of the strategic local and cross-border projects in the region.

Among the major strengths of the firm in Latvia are mergers and acquisitions work, competition, finance, banking and securities law, as well as EU legal matters in the Latvian context. The team’s core competence is transactional work, especially with regard to transactions that are sophisticated in nature and which present unusual circumstances. LAWIN Riga office lawyers have also extensive experience with all aspects of dispute resolution, particularly in complex (often precedent-setting) litigations and international arbitrations. The firm is also busy with real estate investment and tax planning work.
