Alexandre S. D’Ambrosio is General Counsel and Executive Director of Votorantim Industrial, the holding company of the Votorantim Group which controls all industrial activities of the conglomerate. In such capacity, he manages a team of over 60 professionals, comprising the legal departments of the holding company and of all industrial units, including divisions in Brazil, Peru, United States and Canada. These units include Votorantim Cimentos, Brazil and North América (cement), Votorantim Metais, Brazil and Peru (mining and metallurgy) Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio (alluminum), Votorantim Celulose e Papel (pulp and paper), Citrovita Agroindustrial (orange juice), Companhia Nitroquímica Brasileira (chemicals), as well as Votorantim Energia (energy generation) and Votorantim Internacional (trade related activities).
Alex D’Ambrosio is a graduate of the University of São Paulo (LL.B 1984), the Harvard Law School (LL.M 1986) and the National Law Center of George Washington University (MCL-American Practice 1989). He is a licensed attorney in both São Paulo and Washington, DC.
From 1986 to 1996, he practiced law as associate and partner in major law firms in Washington, DC (Patton Boggs & Blow and Ackerson & Bishop) and New York City (Rogers & Wells). His legal practice in the United States focused primarily on international trade, finance, project finance, and mergers/acquisitions. In 1996, he moved to Brazil to join the Odebrecht Group of Companies as in-house counsel. From 1999, he served as General Counsel in the privatized telecommunications sector at Telemig / Tele Norte Celular Participações (wireless operator) and then at Global Village Telecom – GVT (wireless and wireline operator). He joined the Votorantim Group in 2003.
