Uzi Karniel Secretary of the Board and Global Insurance Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.  Uzi Karniel has served as Teva’s Chief Legal Officer since 1971 and as Corporate Secretary since 1978. In this capacity, Uzi established and developed the worldwide legal infrastructure across Teva to support Teva’s rapid growth, and has been instrumental in developing growth engines that have enabled the continued expansion of the company. Under his leadership, Teva's legal and patent departments paved the way as pioneers in the field of intellectual property, gaining the vast knowledge and experience that has made Teva’s expertise in this area an important asset. As a significant partner in the company’s formative years, Uzi's areas of professional responsibility have spanned diverse areas such as M&A and IPOs, corporate law, corporate secretariat, anti-trust, corporate governance, corporate risk management (insurance), intellectual property (patents, trade marks) and tax. In addition, the Teva Legal Departments provide general legal counsel on both local and global levels to the various business units, including, inter alia, business development, finance, research and development (both generic and innovative), human resources, operations, innovative ventures and Teva's international group. Uzi has been a Member of the Executive Committee of the Israeli Association of Publicly Traded Companies since 1971. He holds a LLB from the Faculty of Law, Hebrew University (Tel Aviv Branch). |
