First ‘Best Law Firms’ Analysis Slots Davis Graham & Stubbs as a National Leader
U.S. News & World Report results include input from 100 percent of Fortune 100

(DENVER, September 16, 2010)  The inaugural, 2010 edition of the U.S. News - Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” Guide ranks Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP, Lex Mundi member firm for Colorado, as a national leader in mining law and mutual funds law – and honors the LoDo-based firm with first-tier regional rankings in energy, natural resources, commercial litigation and several corporate law areas, including tax, securities, private equity and M&A.

U.S. News & World Report published the results yesterday. The survey included responses from 9,514 corporate executives, in-house lawyers, marketing officers or private practice attorneys.

DGS has a long history of advising companies in mining and other extractive industries. The firm has often been recognized for its preeminence in areas like natural resources, mining, environmental, oil & gas and Native American law by Best Lawyers, Chambers & Partners, and other publications.

The new U.S. News - Best Lawyers® survey illustrates the strength of the firm’s mutual funds practice. DGS is the only non-coastal law firm to nab the first-tier national ranking, and some may be surprised to learn that the mutual funds industry turns to Denver-based DGS to meet its legal needs.

“Our clients know that there’s a great mutual funds team at the base of the mountains as well as in the canyons of Wall Street,” said Chris Richardson, managing partner at DGS.

DGS partner Peter Schwartz, who heads the firm’s mutual funds practice, commented on how Denver and DGS became known to the mutual fund industry: “Denver’s tech-savvy workforce, corporate environment and natural amenities have made it an appealing location for money managers. I credit my colleague and mentor, Les Woodward, for setting the stage for our current national reputation. Les built a team with knowledge and experience that is unparalleled in our region.”

The DGS mutual funds practice includes Woodward, Schwartz and partner Lee Terry. The firm has recently expanded its team with the addition of two associates with mutual funds experience, including one with mutual funds tax expertise.
