Under said decrees, the National Council for Artificial Intelligence is mandated to develop and oversee the national AI strategy, coordinate implementation across state entities, propose policies and recommendations on technical, legal and economic aspects of AI, review relevant agreements and prepare draft suggestions to legislation and proposed amendments in the AI field. In addition, Egypt has adopted a National AI strategy and a charter for responsible AI, which provides guidance on the same. |

Further, the Executive Regulations of the Egyptian Data Protection Law, just recently issued, provide greater clarity on compliance requirements, including lawful bases for processing, data subject rights, security obligations and cross-border data transfers. The issuance of said executive regulations marks a significant step toward operationalizing the Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law and strengthening the regulatory environment applicable to AI systems relying on personal data. |
